What is an education entry grant?
With the education entry grant, if you are unemployed, you can get started with studies to get closer to a job.
The grant is for those, who have a short prior education and need education at the primary or upper-secondary level to be able to get a job.
It is your home municipality that first assesses if you belong to the target group for the education entry grant. They also help you plan your studies and apply for the education entry grant if it is relevant for you. It is not possible to apply for the education entry grant directly with CSN.
Requirements for the education entry grant
Here are some of the requirements you need to meet to have the right to the education entry grant:
- You are 25-56 years of age.
- You are unemployed and have been registered as a job seeker with the Public Employment Service for at least six months.
- You have a short prior education and have an extensive need for education at the primary or upper-secondary level to be able to get a job.
- You have not had student aid in the past three years.
- You must study at least 50 per cent of full time for at least three weeks.
Are you a foreign citizen? Then you also need to meet the requirements to be entitled to Swedish student financial aid.
Apply with the municipality
You apply for the education entry grant with your home municipality. If you have contact with an administrator at the Public Employment Service or the municipality, he or she can refer to you someone who can help you with your application.

Supplemental allowance for those with children
If you have custody of a child, you can receive an extra allowance. This is called a supplemental allowance.
How long can you receive the education entry grant?
You can receive the education entry grant for 50 weeks at full time. If you study half time, it corresponds to 100 weeks with the education entry grant. After this time, you can apply for student aid.
