How do you apply?
Here you will find information on applying for
- student grants and loans
- study allowance
- study allowance for people with disabilities
- education entry grant.
When you apply for student grants and loans, you use the service Ansök om studiemedel (Apply for student grants and loans) in Mina sidor (only in Swedish). You fill in your application step by step. There are links and reading tips available for each step to help you out.
Use electronic ID
Please use your electronic ID when you apply for student grants and loans. Then you can sign and submit your application without delay on our web site. It's fast and you don't need papers and stamps. With an electronic ID you can easily use our services in Mina sidor. You can order an electronic ID from your bank or from Telia with no costs.
If you don't have an electronic ID, you can apply for student grants and loans with your personal code. It takes a longer time as you will have to print your application or order a printout to be able to sign it. Then you send the signed application by post to CSN.
When can you apply?
You can apply for student grants and loans at any time during the year. However, you can only receive student grants and loans dating back four weeks, calculated from the week when CSN received your application. You can also apply for student grants and loans if you do not yet know whether you have been accepted onto your preferred course. If you are planning to study for several semesters, we recommend you to apply for the full academic year. You can only apply for one year at a time.
If you fall ill after starting your studies, your application for student grants and loans must have been received by CSN before the first day of illness in order for you to receive student grants and loans during the period of illness.
Study allowance includes student grant, supplementary allowance and boarding supplement. You do not have to apply for a student grant (to attend upper secondary school). You will automatically receive the grant starting in the quarter after you turn 16. But you have to apply for a supplementary allowance and boarding supplement. For the 2016/17 academic year, your application must arrive by 30 June 2017. If you are not a Swedish citizen, you have to apply for the student grant.
Application forms - in Swedish:
- supplementary allowance - "Ansökan om extra tillägg" (form no. 1601M)
- boarding supplement - "Ansökan om inackorderingstillägg" (form no. 1604M)
- not Swedish citizen, application for student grant - "Ansökan om studiehjälp/Uppgifter för rätt till svenskt studiestöd" (form no. 4144M).

To apply for the education entry grant, you must contact your home municipality. It is your home municipality that first assesses if you belong to the target group for the education entry grant. You can turn to your administrator at the Public Employment Service or the municipality to find out who at the municipality can help you. It is not possible to apply for the education entry grant directly with CSN.
