Here you will find information on applying for
When you apply for student aid, you use the service Ansök om studiemedel (Apply for student aid) in Mina sidor (only in Swedish). You fill in your application step by step. There are links and reading tips available for each step to help you out.
The fastest way to apply is with your electronic ID, as you can sign and submit your application without delay. If you don't have any electronic ID, you can log in using a personal code or apply without logging in. This will take a longer time as you will have to sign your application and send it by post to CSN.
You can order an electronic ID from your bank or from Telia. There are no costs if you order an electronic ID from your bank. You may also have use for an electronic ID in other circumstances, for example at Skatteverket (the Swedish Tax Agency) and Försäkringskassan (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency). To find out more about getting an electronic ID, please visit www.e-legitimation.se (new window).
You can apply for student aid at any time during the year. However, you can only receive student aid dating back four weeks, calculated from the week when CSN received your application. You can also apply for student aid if you do not yet know whether you have been accepted onto your preferred course. If you are planning to study for several semesters, you can apply for the full academic year. You can only apply for one year at a time.
If you fall ill after starting your studies, your application for student aid must have been received by CSN before the first day of illness in order for you to receive student aid during the period of illness.
Study allowance includes student grant, supplementary allowance and boarding supplement. You do not have to apply for a student grant (to attend upper secondary school). You will automatically receive the grant starting in the quarter after you turn 16. But you have to apply for a supplementary allowance and boarding supplement. For the 2011/12 academic year, your application must arrive by 30 June 2012. If you are not a Swedish citizen you have to apply for a basic entitlement to Swedish student aid to receive study allowance.
