Discounts

To get a discount, you must generally show a card that proves you are studying and are entitled to it. There are three different cards:

• Studentkortet
• Mecenatkortet
• CSN-kortet.

CSN does not administrate the discount cards, but it is done by the card companies.

Upper secondary studies - Studentkortet and Mecenatkortet

You are eligible for these cards if you will be attending a college or university in Sweden and belong to a student union. The cards will be mailed to you when you pay your student union dues. During your first semester, the cards are free. The cards entitle you to discounts on travels with for example SJ (Swedish State Railways) and SAS (Scandinavian Airlines).

Studies at other schools - CSN-kortet

You are eligible for this card if you will be attending an upper secondary school, adult secondary education programme (Komvux), folk high school, advanced vocation-oriented training course (KY) or other post-secondary course. To receive this card, you must be receiving student aid or a study allowance for no fewer than 13 continuous weeks and be studying at least half-time (50 percent). The card entitles you to discounts on travels with for example SJ (Swedish State Railways) and SAS (Scandinavian Airlines).

Insurance

If you attend a Swedish college or university in Sweden, you will be covered by a group personal injury insurance policy. CSN has signed the policy with Kammarkollegiet (Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency) on behalf of colleges and universities.

If you will be studying abroad, you can sign CSN's foreign insurance policy. CSN put together the policy in co-operation with Marsh & McLennan insurance brokers. You may also sign a travel policy with another insurance company.
